Little River, Brisbane Ranges 2707

Little River Gorge, Brisbane Ranges NP
DATE: Sunday 27 July 2025
TIME: 9.15am for a 9.30 start. The walk duration is approximately 3 hours including stops.
LOCATION: The walk will start and finish at a carpark in the Brisbane Ranges National Park, approx 30 km south of Ballan. Car pooling may be required for the last 8km to the starting point as the last section of road is fairly steep and has rough gravel so it is not ideal for small 2wd cars. Meeting location will emailed to registered walkers prior to the event.
REGISTRATION: Registrations are essential before noon on Thursday 25 July.
WALK LEADER: Peter Boadle M: 0407 826 902 E: peter.boadle@gmail.com
DESCRIPTION: This is a relatively short walk of only 5km, but don’t be fooled because it will be slow going! About half of the walk will be “off track”, and this includes walking over rough and rocky terrain beside the upper reaches of the Little River, several stream crossings, and a very steep 120 metre climb/scramble through bushland.
DIFFICULTY: The walk is rated hard because of the rough and potentially slippery “off track” sections beside the Little River, stream crossings, and a steep climb through bushland. Sturdy boots, walking poles and a sense of adventure are recommended.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the day of the walk, please stay at home. Because the walk follows a streamline in rugged terrain, the walk will be cancelled if there is significant rainfall before the walk, or forecast for the day. Relatively low water levels are essential for our safety. Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to attend on the day.
DOGS: Dogs are not permitted as the walk will be within the Brisbane Ranges National Park.
GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.
BRING: It is recommended, you carry a personal first aid kit, your own medication, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Bring light refreshments for breaks.
BOOKING: Bookings are essential on the GDTA website. You may cancel your booking by returning to this page and clicking the cancel button. This will free up a space for other walkers. If the walk is full, you can elect to be put on the waiting list. You will be emailed if a space becomes available. You have 24hrs before the space is withdrawn and offered to the next on the list.
