ARARAT WALK CIRCUIT

This circuit walk/ride has 3 options and 2 alternative routes. The main circuit is 14.5km long and starts and finishes at the Ararat Railway Station. It is also suitable for cyclists. Much of it is on public roads, but walkers can sometimes use abutting footpaths.

From Ararat Station you head west along Birdwood Avenue for 200 metres and then continue straight onto a laneway for a further 200 metres to Vincent Street. Turn right across the railway bridge and go around the northern side of the lake in the Botanic Gardens and past the J-Ward historic building.

Continue northwards on Beveridge Street for 400 metres before going left onto the Cemetery Creek Path. Follow it to the railway crossing at Walker Rd.

Stay on the eastern side of the railway following Park Rd and Railway Rd for 3km to another level crossing at The Majors Rd.  Cross the line and after 600 metres go across the Western Highway onto Main Divide Road. Continue westwards on a gradually ascending gravel road before veering southerly up a slightly steeper grade.

Main Divide Road descends and eventually becomes McDonald Park Rd and is followed to Golf Links Rd where you turn left. Pass the clubhouse and after another kilometre you reach the Western Highway again. Cross the highway and turn right along the service road for 150 metres then left. Follow the bitumen road northerly, then east across the railway. This point was passed earlier.

Turn right and follow Acacia Avenue for 650 metres to Lowe Street where you turn right across the railway bridge then left along the Western Highway. Veer gradually left into High Street and follow it to the station finish point.
