Nuggetty & Yandoit Hills—Intersecting Bioregions

DATE: Sunday August 24th

TIME: 10am for a 10.15am start. Walk duration is approximately 3 hours including stops.

LOCATION: [ general  location here]. The walk start location will be emailed to participants a couple of days before the event.

DESCRIPTION: The walk starts along a bush track heading south to Nuggetty Hill, then to Nevens Road. From here
we head east to the summit of Yandoit Hill (413m) before continuing down to Yandoit-Werona Road
and then heading north to conclude the walk at the intersection of Nevens Road and Yandoit Creek
Road. The walk starts at the southern border of the Goldfields bioregion, characterised by box-ironbark
vegetation, before heading into the Central Victorian Uplands bioregion featuring eucalypts such as
Candlebark. Yandoit Hill is a volcanic eruption site and an outlier of the Victorian Volcanic Plain
bioregion which can be seen to the west from the summit.

There is a short (~1km) car shuffle back to the start of the walk.

DIFFICULTY: The walk is rated moderate with a short, steep pinch to the summit of Yandoit Hill. The overall elevation gain is less than 400m. The track is uneven and rocky in places. Sturdy boots or shoes and waking poles are recommended. Not suitable for people who have trouble with steep, gravelly descents.

HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the day of the walk, please stay at home. Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to attend on the day.

DOGS: Not allowed.

GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and members of affiliated clubs  and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.

BRING: It is recommended, you carry a personal first aid kit, your own medication, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sunglasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Bring light refreshments for breaks.

If the walk is full, you can elect to be put on the waiting list. You will be emailed if a space becomes available. You have 24hrs before the space is withdrawn and offered to the next on the list.
