WALK TITLE: Mt Buninyong Walk

DESCRIPTION: Starting and finishing in the Buninyong township this delightful walk starts in the historic part of the town, then crosses the midland highway and ascending Mt Buninyong to a height of 745 meters via Zig Zag Summit track .Mt Buninyong is a significant site for the Wathaurong People and is a spectacular scoria volcanic cone with mature messmate forest surrounding the summit .The return route we descend through the Union Jack Reserve a historic gold mining precinct. Good cafes at the start or finish of the walk will provide ample opportunity for refreshments.
DIFFICULTY: The walk is rated medium ,The tracks are good but a 375 meter gain may test some.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the day of the walk, please stay at home. As Mt Buninyong can have light dustings of snow through winter, warm clothes and a suitable coat is advisable, Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to attend on the day.
DOGS: Dogs on a lead are allowed on this walk Refer to GDTA dog policy.
GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.
BRING: It is recommended, you carry a personal first aid kit, your own medication, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Bring light refreshments for breaks. [Edit or insert any additional information as appropriate.]
