Sunday April 21st Wombat Safari (Night Walk)

April 21, 2024
5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Event Type

DATE: Sunday April 21st

TIME: approx 5.30 -9.00 PM Members only

DURATION: 2-3 hours 6.5km

DIFFICULTY: Medium. Walk will include off-track sections in the dark. A good level of fitness and agility are a pre-requisite

DESCRIPTION:  A walk in the bush near Bullarto where the wombats are tame and not prone to attack (just kidding)

We will meet in Bullarto South and stop briefly at Jeremy Neal’s Wombat Native Plants Nursery. Jeremy will introduce us to some of the Wombat Forest native edible fruiting plants. We will continue our walk past the site of Wheeler’s 1871 sawmill with some remnant buildings. We follow the timber tramway embankment through the bush to old Bullarto cemetry which is no longer accessible by road. Over the back of the cemetry is the head of the Wombat Creek where we will wait for Wombats to appear in the fading light. The way back will involve some scrambling over logs in the dark, which makes this a medium difficulty walk rather than an easy one.

REGISTRATION: Registration is essential no later than Mid-day Friday 19th April.

If you have difficulty with on-line registration, contact the walk leader, Arie Baelde (, M: 0419 366189)

BRING: Walkers should bring their own first-aid kit and any required personal medications, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Hiking boots or good walking shoes are recommended. Bring light refreshments & water if needed. Bring a head torch if you have one, but no spotlights. If you have good light sensitive binoculars, you can bring them. No dogs allowed.
