Mt Greenock Area GDTA Tour and Walk
(including Mt Greenock Geological Reserve, Mt Glasgow Scenic Reserve & Merin Merin Wildlife Reserve & Wetland)
DATE: Sunday 27 October 2024.
TIME: Meet 9.15am for a 9.30am start; includes BYO lunch at Merin Merin; finish approx 2.00pm.
DISTANCE: 20 km driving between three sites; 5 km total walking, including a steep climb up and down the Mt Greenock summit.
WALK LEADER: Barry Golding.
DIFFICULTY: Medium (participants with limited mobility are welcome if they don’t climb to the Mt Greenock summit).
DESCRIPTION: This tour is focussed on a number of lesser-known legacies associated with Mount Greenock volcanic crater in southern Dja Dja Wurrung Country. These include a Deep Time geological perspective, Major Mitchell’s visit, deep lead mining and a history of licenced and unlicensed grazing on the present-day Geological Reserve. The tour also takes in a visit to the tiny, remarkable but largely unknown Mount Glasgow Scenic Reserve and a short interpretive walk on the edge of the beautiful Merin Merin Wetlands.
DOGS: Dogs on a leash are allowed.
REGISTRATION: This registration link be will active a fortnight prior to the event; numbers are limited; registration closes two days prior to the event. Non-GDTA members who register will bring $10 cash on the day to cover walker insurance .

MEET: Mount Glasgow Geological Reserve, Dunach (near Talbot) The exact meeting location will provided to registrants by email several days before the event. Participants will be invited to share transport beyond the start to minimise the number of vehicles in convoy.
