Miners Walk/Ride

MINERS WALK/RIDE (25.4 km)

Ballarat Railway Station – Creswick Station

The track follows the route taken by 200 Creswick miners who left their claims to march 13 miles to join their ‘brothers’ in their fight for justice at the Eureka Stockade in 1854. The bike trail for this section is slightly shorter at 24.2km.

From the station, head for Mair St, then take the underpass to Ebden St. Follow Yarrowee River, with much-mined Black Hill beside you reaching the Western Freeway underpass. Native regrowth forest begins here. The 4WD track you follow is often muddy between here and Slaty Creek.

Water features include Nuggety Dam, the 126ha fenced-in White Swan Reservoir, the deep old quarry of Blue Waters and tranquil St Georges Lake, originally a mining dam. Extensive evidence of past mining for gold is abundantly encountered in the Creswick Regional Park.

The bike and walking tracks split at Sawpit Crk. Walkers take to a tricky section of gold rush era water race, while bike riders stay on Slaty Crk Rd throughout the Creswick Regional Park.

Bike riders could make a small deviation to power around the RACV Goldfields Resort’s 6km MTB skills loop – register at the golf course shop.
