Canadian Creek Walk/Ride

CANADIAN CREEK WALK/RIDE (6.9 km)

Olympic Ave – Ebden St

This new shared use track offers a more direct route into the city. Twinned to Canadian Crk, it meanders along a City of Ballarat-signed trail, which is well-used and maintained. The council has lined the small creek with native vegetation, making for a pleasant experience. Bikers have a choice. They can either follow the Canadian Creek Trail or head west to the slightly longer Yarrowee River trail (9.4km). Both rejoin at Peel St Sth.

For the Canadian Creek Trail, turn east into Olympic Ave, down 200m to the Canadian Creek Trail signage. Follow the twisting concrete/bitumen trail, which has lots of little bridges. Features include traces of the red gums that once lined the creek, suburbia around artificial lakes, passing the Sovereign Hill mine poppet head.

For the Yarrowee River Ride, continue along Geelong Rd to the Mt Clear Shopping Centre, turn left down the Mt Clear-Sebastopol Rd (known locally as Whitehorse Road). Follow the Yarrowee River past historic Yuilles Station Park, the Redan wetlands and the imposing brick structure of the Ballarat Woollen Mill, built in 1872.

From Peel St Sth, the shared use track heads along Peel St. You can choose to go into town to the railway station or straight ahead under an impressive bluestone railway bridge to Ebden St where the next section starts.
