CresFest 2025 ‘Climb Mount Greenock & See the Sunrise’
DATE: Sunday 6 April
TIME: Meet at Mt Greenock Geological Reserve, Dunach to start walking by 6.45am (Allow at least 30 minutes for the 32km drive from Creswick to where we meet).
You’ll be back in Creswick by around 9.30am.
DISTANCE: 3 km walking, including a steep climb to the Mt Greenock summit.

DESCRIPTION: This walk goes to the summit of the Mount Greenock volcanic crater in time for sunrise at 7.37am. Participants are responsible to drive themselves and get to
the start of the walk at Mount Glasgow Geological Reserve, a remarkable but largely unknown publicly owned mountain.
DOGS: Dogs on a leash are allowed.

MEET: Be prepared to start walking from the Mount Greenock Geological Reserve [DON”T USE THE ROUTE PROVIDED BY GOOGLE MAP The ‘road’ marked on
Google maps to the west of the Reserve does not exist].
Access the Reserve from the south via a gate off Ballarat Maryborough Road C287, Dunach (between Clunes & Talbot). Coming from Clunes towards Talbot, the gate into the signposted reserve is on a crest on your right approximately 1km beyond McCallum’s Creek.
TOILETS: There are no public toilets in this largely open landscape. There is sufficient cover near our meeting place for a ‘bush wee’. Be prepared.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the day of the walk, please stay at home. Keep an eye on the expected Temperature, we cancel events at late notice if too hot, fire bans etc. Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to attend.
GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.
BRING: It is recommended, you carry a personal first aid kit, your own medication, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Bring light refreshments for breaks.
BOOKINGS: Bookings are essential and open 2 weeks before the walk. You may cancel your booking by returning to this page and clicking the cancel button. This will free up a space for other walkers. If the walk is full, you can elect to be put on the waiting list. You will be emailed if a space becomes available. You have 24hrs before the space is withdrawn and offered to the next on the list.
