TIME: 9:45 for a 10:00 start. The walk will take about 2.5 hours including rest breaks.

REGISTRATION: Registrations are essential before noon on Monday, June 8. Register on-line using the link below.

WALK LEADER: Tim Bach (M: 0409 232 572; E: president@gdt.org.au)

DESCRIPTION: The walk is a circuit of the Loddon Falls and Holcombe Scenic Reserves. The river has carved a gorge through the lava flow of a relatively recent volcano exposing spectacular, precipitous basalt columns.  Eugene von Guerard painted the gorge and one of our quests will be to search for the location where he sat as he sketched the river. A descent to the main falls is optional but walkers who do not wish to descend to the falls can admire the view from the top of the escarpment. The water level is low at present which means the falls are not at their best but river crossings are easy and exploring the river bed is possible. Lunch will follow at the Glenlyon General Store for those who are interested.

Crossing the Loddon above the Falls.

DIFFICULTY: The walk is rated MEDIUM. Much of the walk is on faint animal tracks and through long grass. There are two shallow creek crossings but walkers should be able to cross with care without getting wet. An optional descent to the falls is rocky and may be slippery if wet.

HEALTH AND SAFETY: COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time of the walk will apply. If restrictions on group size occur prior to the walk, it may be necessary to cancel the walk or restrict numbers.

DOGS: Dogs are allowed on the walk but must be kept on a lead at all times.

GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.

BRING: Walkers should bring their own first-aid kit and any required personal medications, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Long pants are recommended because there is tall grass along some of the pads. Gaiters are a good safety precaution. Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Bring light refreshments for morning tea. Lunch will follow the walk at the Glenlyon General Store for those interested in joining us.
