
Upper Loddon River and Loddon Water Race – 0322

WALK TITLE: Upper Loddon River and Loddon Water Race
DATE: Sunday, March 22, 2026.
TIME: 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start. Walk duration is approximately 4 hours including stops.
LOCATION: Upper Loddon State Forest between Glenlyon and Glenluce. Details will emailed to registered walkers prior to the event.
REGISTRATION: Registrations are essential before noon on Friday, March 20, 2026.

DESCRIPTION: This walk will roughly follow Walk 16, “Rugged Upper Loddon” from the GDTA’s Central Victorian Highlands Walk and Ride Circuits booklet. The walk includes a section through the gorge of the Upper Loddon downstream from Loddon Falls, a section along the Loddon Water Race constructed in the 1860s and an old mining ruin.
DIFFICULTY: The walk is rated Medium to Hard. Although there is little elevation gain in this 10k walk, much of the it is along faint animal tracks or overgrown vehicle tracks. There are no groomed walking tracks. The track is uneven and rocky in places.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the day of the walk, please stay at home. Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to attend on the day.
DOGS: Dogs are allowed on this walk but must remain on a lead at all times.
GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.
BRING: It is recommended, you carry a personal first aid kit, your own medication, water bottles, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Because of the terrain, sturdy boots or shoes and waking poles are recommended. Bring a lunch and light refreshments for breaks.
