December 9, 2025
4:30 am - 8:30 am

Event Type

Mount Beckworth / Nyaninuk Dawn IMD Walk

DATE: Tuesday 9 December 2025

TIME: 4.30am for a short drive at 4.45am, before a 5.00am walk start. Walk duration is  approximately 3 hours including breakfast and cuppa .

LOCATION: Mt Beckworth Scenic Reserve, but car meet point at nearby Glendaruel CFA. Full start details given to those who register prior to the walk. We are starting very early so we will be on the summit in time for the sunrise around 5.50am.

WALK LEADER: Barry Golding of GDTA.

DESCRIPTION: This walk explores part of the biodiverse southern Mount Beckworth Range. This elevated, ancient granite range in central Dja Dja Wurrung Country was one of the six local mountains featured in Six Peaks Speak. It includes a walk in the dark (bring a head torch) up the relatively gentle Southern Ridge Track as the light slowly floods the sky, BYO breakfast and superb views on the 629 metre summit after a 5.50am sunrise, and an off-track walk down a delightful, steep grassy slope through the edge of a pine forest and little know cork oak copse back to the start. Workers would be able to clock on as usual for their start of work on Tuesday!

DIFFICULTY: Medium, 6km. Some steep slopes.

DOGS: No dogs are permitted on this walk .

HEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the day of the walk, please stay at home. It will be early-summer so keep an eye on the forecast temperature. We cancel events at late notice if too hot, fire bans etc. Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to attend.

GUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and open to non-members. For non-members, a $10 fee is payable for insurance cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that children under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.

BRING: You must bring a head torch or similar to commence the walk in the dark. It is recommended that you carry a personal first aid kit, your own medication, water bottles, and personal hiking gear (walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Bring something to drink and eat for breakfast.

BOOKINGS: Bookings are essential and open 2 weeks before the walk (25 Nov). You may cancel your booking by returning to this page and clicking the cancel button. This will free up a space for other walkers. If the walk is full, you can elect to be put on the waiting list. You will be emailed if a space becomes available. You have 24hrs before the space is withdrawn and offered to the next on the list.
