DESCRIPTION:\n\nColiban Water Channel\n\nDATE: Sun May 25\nTIME: 10.00 AM f
 or 10.30 start. Walk duration is approximately 8 km and 3.5 hours\nWALK LE
 ADERS: Ed Butler &amp\; Mick Evans\nDESCRIPTION: This a fairly flat walk a
 long the historic\, but still used\, Coliban Water Channel. The Channel wa
 s built in the 19th century to meet the water needs of Bendigo\, a city ri
 ch in gold but very poor in water. Designed by J M Brady and completed in 
 it’s first stage in 1877 it had the Malmsbury Reservoir as it’s water 
 source an 70km of open channel with many structures on the way. It has bee
 n expanded over the intervening 150 years and still serves a major water n
 eed.\nThis walk is along a section on the eastern side of Leanganyuk (Mt A
 lexander) and contours around the mountain with many original bluestone st
 ructures and a tunnel.\nThe walk is quite short but there is an option to 
 do an additional loop walk on the top of Leanganyuk after lunch.\nThere wi
 ll be a car shuffle to start with\, there is plenty of parking at the meet
 ing point but limited parking at the walk start point So be prepared for s
 me herding of cats.\nDIFFICULTY: The walk is rated Easy. The overall eleva
 tion gain is less than 200 m.\n\nHEALTH AND SAFETY: If you are ill on the 
 day of the walk\, please stay at home. It will be early Autumn so keep an 
 eye on the expected weather\, we cancel events at late notice if too hot\,
  fire bans etc. Please call or text the walk leader if you are unable to a
 ttend.\n\nGUEST MEMBERSHIP AND INSURANCE: The walk is free to members and 
 open to non-members. For non-members\, a $10 fee is payable for insurance 
 cover under the Bushwalking Victoria insurance policy. Please note that ch
 ildren under 5 years cannot be covered by this policy.\n\nBRING: It is rec
 ommended\, you carry a personal first aid kit\, your own medication\, wate
 r bottles\, sun screen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses\, walking sti
 cks\, small pack\, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weath
 er conditions on the day. Bring light refreshments and Lunch for breaks.\n
 \nBOOKINGS: Bookings are essential and open 2 weeks before the walk. You m
 ay cancel your booking by returning to this page and clicking the cancel b
 utton. This will free up a space for other walkers. If the walk is full\, 
 you can elect to be put on the waiting list. You will be emailed if a spac
