Wildflower Walk & Photo Competition
DATE: Sunday October 18
TIME: 10.00 AM for 10.15 start. 5-7km Walk duration is approximately 3.5 hrs.
LOCATION: Central Highlands (wherever we can find wildflowers)
WALK LEADER: Gib Wettenhall
DESCRIPTION:
The traditional GDTA Wildflower Walk is a ramble around an area where wildflowers are expected to be in abundance. We will spend the time finding, identifying and photographing wildflowers. Someone will explain the phone app iNaturalist. which we can use as a tool to identify the flowers we find. And if iNaturalist can’t figure it out, we will have local naturalist Tanya Loos as a backup. Take the time to add the app to your phone before you come on the walk and develop a little skill in it’s use.
Two bottles of Bests wine have been donated by Gib Wettenhall for the best photos taken on the day and posted on the GDTA Facebook page. Photo judging will be by Tim Bach and Gib who are trustworthy, honest and incorruptible. Composition, creativity and focus are fundamental criteria. Wildflowers should be native species indigenous to the area. Points also for unique or rare species. Get out your camera, figure out the Macro setting and practise taking some photos before the walk.
This walk does not involve a lot of fancy footwork, distance or difficult terrian. It’s more about staring intently at what’s beneath your feet.
The location, in the vicinity of Daylesford or Castlemaine, will be selected in the week prior with expert input from naturalist, Tanya Loos. Registrants will be advised by email by Friday, Oct 16, of the exact meeting place.
DIFFICULTY: The walk is rated Easy. The overall elevation gain is less than 200m.
