Wednesday Evening Wander around Wombat Station

This is the initial GDTA Wednesday walk. Future mid-week walks will be held on the second Wednesday of April, June, August, October and December.

DATE: Wednesday 14 February

TIME: 3.45pm for a 4pm start

DURATION: 6.7km – allow 2.5-3 hours

WALK LEADER: Gib Wettenhall

DIFFICULTY: Easy-Medium

START: Wombat Station car park, NE side of Rocklyn /Rd  ‘what3words’ ///expeditions.sanded.shorts

DESCRIPTION: This 6.7 km walk will start our mid-week walks for 2024 and it’s not entirely an easy stroll as at a couple of places requires deviating around fallen trees. It includes walking above the impressive 1km long Wombat Railway Cutting past the site of the launch of the GDTA in 1992. Cutting up through bush tracks and following an iron water pipeline to the high stone wall of the Barkstead stamping battery. Rambling on a faint unused track to Mullins Dam. Finally, back along the Goldfields Track to the Wombat Station rotunda for an evening drink, starters or if you eat early, bring along a picnic meal.

REGISTRATION: Registration is essential no later than Monday 12 February. Click on the link to register– https://www.gdt.org.au/events/wednesday-evening-wander-wombat-station-mullins-dam

Bookings are now  open and will close 2 days prior. If you have difficulty with on-line registration, contact the walk leader Gib and mark to his attention via – membership@gdt.org.au

BRING: Walkers should bring their own first-aid kit and any required personal medications, water bottles, sunscreen and personal hiking gear (sun glasses, walking sticks, small pack, etc). Wear clothing appropriate for the predicted weather conditions on the day. Hiking boots or good walking shoes are recommended. Bring drinks for walk’s end and nibbles or a picnic tea. A camp chair for comfort around the rotunda is probably worth packing in the car boot along with victuals.
