GDTA Guided Ride – Sunday November 28
Tarilta & Dry Diggings circuit from Guildford, ready to ride at 1000.
Ride grade Green, Easy per tinyurl.com/ride-trail-grades
This nearly 27 km ride suits mtb, gravel bikes and with suitable tyres – hybrids / & e-bikes. Mainly rural gravel roads, forest dirt roads (one steepish scrabbly section just 200m), with a section of Dry Diggings Track to introduce those who have yet to enjoy the Goldfields Track.
Rural roads take us via Tarilta, a bustling gold town from 1850-1880s, now a quiet settlement. Then we earn great views of surrounding hills from Kangaroo Hill before looking down to Vaughan Springs as we turn south. Dropping down onto a very pleasant section of Dry Diggings Track we ride (or walk) some single track along an old water channel. Back onto the high road with glimpses of surrounding ridges until we take a 4WD track to ponder a rock set in the gully. Drop to Tarilta Creek and while snacking, its geocache Nature Takes its Course for some while others can head up the lovely creek side track to view The Screams. A bit of a steep climb out to a road wending its way through verdant forest. A stop to admire the private yet public dog park then the last stretch back to Guildford and a late lunch or early arvo coffee at the well known store.
