The Water Races and Goldmines of Basalt

Sunday June 27

Time 9.30

Walk Grade Medium

Leader Ed Butler

The walk will be about 12 km and will be off-track for several km through bush & on water races. The walk will be part of the forthcoming GDT book of short walks but will deviate to take in an extensive network of water races dating from the 1860’s. We will visit the Charlesford mine which was worked up until the 1950’s-60 ’s and climb the old volcano which is Basalt Hill. Owing to some rough parts and slippery water races good boots & walking poles are recommended. Bring a lunch, water, personal 1st aid kit and a sense of humour.

Please register via the following link and submit a separate form for each walker. Where to meet etc will be provided after registration.
